Azul Releases Payara 7 With Jakarta EE 11 Support

Thumbnail
Azul has launched Payara Server 7 and Payara Micro 7, becoming an early commercial provider of Jakarta EE 11-certified runtimes for enterprise Java. This release marks Azul's expansion into application server infrastructure following its acquisition of Payara.
  • Key Facts: Payara Server 7 is Jakarta EE 11 certified for Full, Web, and Core Profiles; Payara Micro 7 is certified for Web and Core Profiles.
  • The release requires JDK 21 or later and supports JDK 21-25, with Docker images available.
  • Developers can migrate existing Payara 6 applications to Payara 7 without code modifications due to unchanged Jakarta namespaces.
  • This positions Azul ahead of competitors like Oracle WebLogic and Red Hat JBoss EAP, which currently support older Jakarta EE versions, while IBM WebSphere Liberty submitted its certification post-Payara 7's release.
  • Azul is also providing updates and security patches for supported Payara 4, 5, and 6 branches.
  • Payara, originally a GlassFish fork, was acquired by Azul in late 2025 as part of a strategy to offer a comprehensive enterprise Java platform, including JDKs and cloud-native runtimes.
