Heat, humidity to spur summery conditions, storms in eastern US this week

Thumbnail
This week, the eastern United States will experience a significant surge in heat and humidity, potentially reaching AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures of 100°F and above. This weather pattern is also expected to fuel thunderstorm activity, particularly inland and over mountainous regions.
  • The eastern U.S. will see a buildup of heat and humidity, leading to widespread highs in the upper 80s to mid-90s, especially from Thursday through Friday. Daily record highs may be broken in multiple locations over several days.
  • AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures could reach or exceed 100°F due to the combined effects of heat, humidity, and sunshine.
  • Individuals engaged in strenuous activity outdoors are advised to stay hydrated and seek shade or air conditioning to prevent heat-related illnesses. Close monitoring of children and the elderly is recommended.
  • The conditions are suitable for beach and pool activities, though caution is advised regarding cooler water temperatures, which typically lag behind air temperatures until July.
  • The combination of heat and humidity increases the likelihood of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. While beaches may remain mostly dry, inland areas and the Appalachians could experience strong storms, especially later in the week.
  • The Plains may see intense thunderstorms into Tuesday night, and excessive rainfall in parts of the Mississippi and Ohio valleys could lead to flash flooding midweek.
